Thai people - True Entrepreneurs!!!!

You know what I actually thought about in the shower this morning??? I reflected on the fact that Thai people are amazing entrepreneurs! When I was at the market yesterday, I saw so many people running their own mini-businesses. They sell water and amazing juice drinks, little sausages, tasty curries, tons of clothes and jewelry, and offer services such as massages. It's amazing what people here do. I also notice that in the area by my hotel, there are tons of street vendors selling food everywhere I look. Out of carts, out of shops, you name it. They will even use little pots on single burners. Amazing smells fill the street, people eat up, and the Thai entrepreneur makes a bhat!!!

I love the spirit of the people here in Thailand. So friendly and entrepreneurial!!! I love spending my money here!

Happy NYE everyone. XOXO

I am in Thailand!!!!

Wow, have I ever been a blog slacker. I had so much awesome stuff to report, and due to Xmas and vacation, I failed to actually sit down and write. John did my final weigh in and measurements right before Christmas, and I lost 10 pounds of fat and lotsa inches!!!! I decreased my metabolic age, and everything has improved. I have exact numbers in a fancy excel spreadsheet he gave me, and I will input them after my holiday.

I went home for Christmas. I had such a lovely time, ate lots of great food, and saw so many lovely faces. Oh, and I got lotsa kick ass presents too! I also held a shake party at my sisters! It was so fun to have one in Redcliff with people I've known forever. Stacey was soooo kind to let me have it at her house, and it was lots of fun! The ladies were laughing up a storm!

And now, I am in Bangkok Thailand. Just arrived late last night. It is amazing here. I love it. So far (in only 8 hours today) I've visited a huge weekend market, received a Thai massage (awesome) and explored the area by my hotel. I've also eaten tons of juicy delicious fruit. That's all I've eaten so far... gotta find some real food! No Visalus for three weeks - what will I do??!!!!

I wish you all a happy New Year!!!! May all of your dreams come true!!! XOXO

Inspiration - Jen Hendershott!!!!

Wowzers. I just found a couple of videos on Youtube of a Figure champ named Jen Hendershott (I am not a pro at fitness or bodybuilding, so she is new to me, although from what I read, she is a LEGEND!). Not only does the girl choose sweet music to perform to (big beats, oh yah), but she has ULTIMATE SPUNK! Damn that girl can move. So explosively fast! And I also appreciate her sense of humour (note the chocolates in the last video, hahahaa).

Sometimes I feel like I work hard and hit the gym like a pro-star. But really, my three days a week ain't shit compared to this girl. Imagine the determination and dedication it takes to achieve this level of physical strength, flexibility and endurance. And the best part is - she loves it! You can see how much fun she's having!!! I love it. It truly is inspiring to see what the human body can do.

Jen Hendershott is a two-time Ms. Olympia and two-time Fitness International Champion. And if I am reading her biography correctly, she was 34 the first time she won the Ms. Olympia championship!!! Wowzers. That is insanely awesome. She is now 39 and looks super amazing! Age is just a number, as Jen looks hotter than any 20 year old!

Here's a super fast paced video of Jen performing:

And a super awesome/funny one (minus the male commentator, ha):

I guess I better get practicing the splits!

Month Two... What to do?

I am now on month number two of being a Visalus distributor. Woot woot. I am pretty pumped about a few business things that have happened lately. First - I received my business cards in the mail. Oh yah, that's right - I am now officially in BIZNAZ! If any of you out there would like my card, or want to hand a few out, let me know :) I think it's pretty fancy.

I also received my second cheque, so that's good as well. Oh, and I even bought a Visalus shirt, which I think looks pretty hot, so that when I hold Challenge Parties, I can get dressed up in the proper attire.

The second month is kinda tough, though, because I've now recruited most of my friends and work buddies in Edmonton, and I am wondering - what next? How do I find new people to get on the Challenge? How do I recruit business partners? How do I convince family and friends, and people I've never met, to get healthy and wealthy with me?

As for my personal life, the gym and me did not get along this past week, at all. In fact, I sadly had to skip an entire week, which never happens, as the vaccinations I received last Monday seriously knocked me on my ass!!! I decided to put every single needle in my left arm, thinking that it would be best to contain the damage. I think that was a foolish decision. Instead, I could barely raise my arm to the side, or lift it up (taking off shirts was the worst), and it hurt to touch my arm or brush it against anything. Ouch! I also felt sort of tired and under the weather all week, and so I decided to take it easy. My trainer John totally agreed with me, as he understands what it's like to become a human pin cushion prior to travel.

Food wise, I have been addicted to the shakes as per usual (once you start, it really is a lifestyle change!), but I've been a bad girl and I've added some eggnog (and the occasional spiced rum) to the shake mix! The thing is - this way I am being healthy (getting nutrients that fill me up) while being bad (eggnog and rum ain't exactly low cal, haha). I figure it's Christmas time, I know I will indulge a little, so I might as well indulge responsibly. It's sooooo good!!! I am hooked!!!!

Other than that, I've spent this weekend busy as a bee, getting ready for Christmas and then Thailand. I tackled my super cluttered room today, and washed and organized everything! Yay! I had to do this in order to find my camera charger, how bad is that?!? It was torture spending my whole Sunday cleaning, and as a result I missed the Butterdome Craft Fair, but hey - I saved money, my room looks awesome, and now I can relax with my blog and a glass of wine!

I am just texting my sister as well. She's the best sister in the whole world, for real. I know everyone thinks that - but mine actually is. She is so generous, kind, funny, and like a little spark of love. She's exciting and full of spunk, and I love her to pieces <3 XOXO. Can't wait to see the whole family at Christmas!!!

OH! And Redcliff, get ready, because a Challenge Party is coming your way on the 27th of December! Mark yr calendar!!!

My first cheque!

Make your New Year's Dreams Come True

Wow. It is already December 4th. Before I know it, I'll be taking the mighty Greyhound home for Christmas, and then blasting off to Thailand for a three week vacation. There's so much excitement coming up in the future, I am pumped! I can't wait to lay on a tropical beach, after having a lovely Xmas with the fam.

My New Year's resolution is to achieve my fat and fortune goals. I want to continue to work out and eat healthy (with the occasional delicious treat - in moderation) so that I can enter my 30th year with the best bod ever! In addition, I want to grow my Visalus business and find a few partners to act as distributors. I also want to learn more about social media tools, and figure out how I can generate new business leads. I figure this should keep me busy for a year. It's always good to set goals and try to achieve them :)

I know that many people's New Year's resolutions involve weight loss. If you have a feeling that your resolution will be focused on diet and nutrition, now is a great time to order a Visalus Challenge Kit! Your products will arrive in about a week, and when January 1st hits, you will be ready to rumble!!!! I can guarantee you that if you start drinking two shakes a day, the pounds will drop off, your energy will increase, and you will feel amazing. The shake mix is that good!!!

Please visit my website to get started - just click "Join the Challenge!" http://jodiebakker.myvi.net/

I would also like to add that I have now been blogging for a little over a month! YAY! It's been such a great experience and it's fun to write down everything I've learned about improving my health while learning business skills. In the one month I've been blogging, this site has received over 1000 visits!!! Wow! I think that's fantastic. Thank you so much to everyone who reads this - I really appreciate it. Please leave feedback or questions if there's anything you want to know or would like me to talk about.

I also have to mention that I just got my first ever Visalus cheque in the mail! Woot woot. This shit is for real, ha. It's my first ever commission cheque, and it is for the first week of November (payments come weekly, with a bonus cheque at the end of the month). My cheque for my first week was $37.70! Not bad! I'll attach a pic. Get ahold of me if you want to become a distributor and earn some cash from home.

What are you New Year's resolutions? Do you have any? Or, do you think they are just stupid?

Success = Intelligence + Self-Control

This week has been incredibly busy, inspiring and challenging in so many ways. My roomies left today for Ireland, and so we did our Christmas evening together on Monday (yah for fish tacos and good friends). I also booked my ticket to Thailand on Monday, and I've been hunting for hotels. I hit the gym Monday and Wednesday night, attended a self-defence class Tuesday night, busted my ass at work, and even got up Tuesday morning at 5:00 a.m. so that I could attend "Breakfast with the Guys," a fundraiser to support women's shelters and to help stop violence against women. It's a cool event because it's aimed at men, and it encourages them to help combat domestic violence.

The speaker at Breakfast with the Guys was Arlene Dickinson, an investor from Dragon's Den. She spoke about her personal experiences with domestic violence, and how one can never pre-judge what the face of domestic violence looks like. She also spoke briefly about the determinants of success. The one piece of business knowledge that she shared that resonated with me was that two things consistently predict success: intelligence and self-control. Of these two things, we have the most influence over our self-control, (also called self-discipline or willpower). Personal success hinges on exercising self-control and motivating ourselves to work hard, be persistent and achieve our dreams through sheer determination.

Losing weight is not easy. Going to the gym and working one's ass off costs money, it takes time, and it hurts. The thing is though - it pays dividends. After a few months, the results are phenomenal. You can see muscles. You feel energetic. You can breathe easier. Run faster. Become stronger.

Your body is your temple and you have it for life. It's easy to give in to treats and to become lazy, and everyone does it at some point. What's important is to exercise self-control most of the time, and eat things that are clean, nutritious and good for you. Feed your body the fuel it needs to thrive! Willpower is important because it allows us to forgo immediate gratification for long term benefit. The gym might not feel good for the first few months, but eventually, it will reap rewards.

Achieving success at work and business is also not easy. It takes hard work, courage and determination. You have to be passionate and resourceful and creative. By forgoing some fun now, however, great success can be found in the future. In my life right now, I am willing to put in extra time and effort every evening after work, in the belief that it will pay off in the future. I want to be a successful business owner and entrepreneur. I want to make a residual income, and earn money from home.

I think that it's really cool that children's self-control predicts future success. I am looking for all those people who could resist temptation as a kid. Those people who had self-discipline from a young age. If you are out there and reading this and want to join a company that's all about helping people get healthy and wealthy, give me a shout!

I believe in Visalus because I think it is in line with current trends. Obesity is a major epidemic in our society. The Body by Vi Challenge targets this problem. Visalus also encourages people to become entrepreneurs, learn business skills and build residual income. This is what people want - financial freedom, and freedom to manage their time. Considering that we are coming out a recession, people want to find a way to control their financial future and earn extra money. Vislaus provides solutions to health AND wealth issues.

It only costs $500 to become a Visalus distributor, which includes all of the start-up products. This is a small amount of money to forgo to become a small business owner. So what do you think? Do you have the self-control and motivation to give up $500 of your money now, so that you can put in some hard work and earn more later?

Giant Challenge Party!!! Whoaaa whoaaa.

So today I bravely took the bus to a part of Edmonton I had never even heard of, to gather with my Visalus team members at PHAT Training, to hold a giant challenge party. A one-star ambassador on our team, Jeni Briscoe, was in town to provide training and to help us give this event some pizazz. I really wanted to make an effort to attend, even though I did not have any potential customers to bring with me. I think that watching how these things are done is important, as one day I will have to lead a Challenge Party on my own.

I also wanted to meet a few team members who I've talked to a million times through e-mail, but never met in person - Shandrie and Jamie. Both girls are in my upline, and they've answered a million questions for me. Shandrie is always super helpful and I love writing her, as she is funny and has the best advice. I also love her facebook status updates as she's a huge Oilers fan, which of course melts my heart :) Jamie Senuk is a Presidential Director at Visalus and she's kick-ass at breaking lots of records on our team. She is also a nutritionist, and so she provides free nutrition advice to anyone who joins our team. And if you are wondering, both Jeni and Jamie are pro IFBB competitors, and they are super successful using Visalus to achieve rock hard bodies. In fact, Jamie personally tested the ingredients in the Visalus shake mix in independent laboratories, and she was blown away with the high quality of the product!!!

Shandrie provided me with lots of great advice tonight. First, I wondered what I could do to get more people out the Challenge parties. I've been trying to invite friends, but a lot aren't that interested. Her advice was that I should ask my friends to see if they know anyone that might be interested. Getting specific names and contact information is important. As such, I am going to start asking my friends if they know anyone who wants to improve their health, increase their nutrition, and/or lose weight.

And for all you readers out there - please, send me a comment and let me know if you know anyone who is struggling with weight loss, diabetes, or nutrition issues!!!! I really want to succeed in this business and I need your help.

Besides learning, I also wanted to attend the challenge party to get inspired and energized. Jeni rose to the rank of Ambassador in Visalus in 6 months! She makes a great income and has tons of fun, and it's cool to see how nice and easy going she is. She also mentioned that she's shy and afraid of public speaking. It's heartening to know that people can succeed in this business, even if they aren't natural extroverts or business professionals!

I heard many inspiring real-life stories tonight. A couple of these revolved around diabetes. It's apparently very common for insulin dependent diabetics to be able to reduce or eliminate their insulin after starting the Visalus shakes. The shakes contain sucralose and not sugar, and they are packed with nutrients that keep you full, and so they really help diabetics manage the disease.

One guy working out in Fort Mac at a work camp spoke about how he lost over 30 pounds in the 90 day challenge by drinking two shakes a day. He still ate a huge camp dinner, but the two shakes was enough to drastically improve his diet and help him lose weight.

It was mentioned that a lot of guys are concerned there is not enough protein in the shakes. The thing to remember is that the protein in the Visalus shakes is of a very high quality, and all of it is properly absorbed by the body. As such, it is probably equivalent to the crap that people buy in Popeye's that's loaded with filler.

It was cool that two of the guys at the party were from Fort Mac and dug the shakes!!! I need to find me some Fort Mac boys who wanna supplement their camp food with a kick-ass healthy shake that will give them extra energy and help them stay in shape. Lee, my dear, bring me some boy referrals!!!! (Lee is my bf who works in Fort Mac!!!)

Wow... I learned so much today and I can't even remember it all. It's after 11 (almost 12!) and I am thinking about Visalus and Thailand and Christmas... so much exciting stuff is going on. The girl who is my direct sponsor, Dawn, gave me a ride home, and she has been to Thailand twice, and so she gave me some hotel and site seeing tips. I am super pumped to go on vacation in January!!! And it's gonna be sweet rockin' a bikini after this November from Hell. It's getting harder every day to not drink red wine. I miss it so bad. But I gotta keep my eye on the prize. My weight today was the lowest it's been since I moved back to Edmonton after grad school!!! I guess that two shakes a day and no alcohol works wonders!!!! So, if any of you folks out there are looking to get yr bikini bod back in action, trust me - if I can do it - you can too!!!!

The Table Set-Up at the Challenge Party

Vislaus Cookie Tasting - They are Yummy and Packed with Veggies and Fiber

The Shake Station - Yum Yum

Energy Drinks. Pro and Go give you POWER!

Jeni's big Cheque. I want one too!!!!!!

The Challenge Party in Action! Go Jeni and Jamie!

So awesome!

Lazy Marketing Kills Kittens

Wow! Today was awesome. First off, I pretty much have the best job ever, as all of my bosses encourage education and life-long learning, and they allow staff to attend seminars and conferences and all that jazz. So today I asked permission to attend the Edmonton Social Media Breakfast. The speaker, Dana DiTomaso, sounded amazing - and the topic, "Local + Social = Better Together" - sounded interesting.

Dana's presentation did not disappoint. Her style was interesting, funny, direct, and informative. She used practical examples and explained the concepts she was using. It was perfect for noobies (like me!) and experts. I learned so much today, and I feel highly motivated to apply these lessons in work and life.

I'll list some highlights of the talk:

  • Stop being lazy, you can kick ass online... if you put in a good effort. Dana pointed out that so many people do a bad job of utilizing social media that if you can figure out how to do it well - you'll be ahead of the competition. Dana's most hated lazy manoeuvre was updating all yr social networks at once - don't use the same post for facebook, twitter, myspace, etc.
  • Make sure to tell a story online, and the story shouldn't read, "buy my crap." People want content and knowledge, and they want to get to know you as a person. Yes, you can sell stuff, but that's not why they are checking you out.
  • Make sure your business is ready to rock n roll when you start using social media, or you will get slaughtered with bad online reviews.
  • Find potential customers using social media tools - look for the right kind of people. Pay attention to their interests, hobbies, and the places they visit.
  • Use topsy.com to keep track of industry news (it searches certain key words that you select, every day, so you keep up on the latest happenings). Get results delivered to your RSS feed (like Google Reader), so that you can read juicy gossip on your fave stuff every day and keep on top of trends
Check out Dana's complete presentation at: www.tinyurl.com/nov2011smbyeg.

On top of all that awesomeness, I am pleased to report that two new customers have joined the Body by Vi Challenge in the last two days.

Yesterday was super trippy, because I saw that I had a new customer from Medicine Hat named Jodi Baker. My name is Jodie Bakker, and I grew up 10 minutes from Medicine Hat. At first I thought it was a joke or a mistake or a scam. Something seemed fishy. But, I wrote Jodi, and sure enough - she's a real person and she's awesome. She had tried Visalus awhile back, liked it, wanted to buy some in preparation for a Mexican vacation, and saw that I was selling it on a mutual friend's facebook. Social media brought us together!!! And how perfect is it that we have almost identical names!

Then today, a long-time friend of mine named Jesse also joined the Challenge. She recently had twins, which as you can imagine, is tough to manage (although she's kicking butt at motherhood, cuz she's so positive and amazing). Jesse is finding it hard to eat lunch on a regular basis, and Visalus will provide her with a quick and nutritious way to get some yummy in her belly.

Jesse has an awesome blog that explores her journey of first-time motherhood and the joys of having twins. I highly recommend that you check it out: http://www.growingcampbells.blogspot.com/.

Well, now that I am almost done this blog entry, I gotta go and practice all the stuff I learned today. Someone invite me to join google + (I am not a member yet!). And I'll get started on socialbro, topsy, linkedin and foursquare!!!

Back on Track, and Getting Experimental

Today was one of those days where things just work out and feel good, and it seems like I am functioning at a higher level. I kicked butt at work and finished a report I had been working on for awhile. That felt good! My new Visalus order also arrived - and it was a huge one. Not only did I order the Transformation Kit for myself, but I also ordered some new products: Visalus Pro (a pre-workout energy drink), 15 shake samples so that potential customers can try the product first, chocolate chip cookies (they are healthy - full of veggies and protein!), and a pack of chocolate favour mix-ins. Yay!

I tried a cookie and Pro prior to my workout - and I really liked both. I must say, however, I just learned that Visalus is taking away Neuro in Canada and replacing it with Pro, because Canadian regulations don't let them market it as an energy drink (the caffeine is too low!!!). That's crazy. It gives a natural energy, and clarity of mind. Who cares if it is low in caffeine???!!! I love the flavor of Neuro, and I am addicted to it, and so I am sad to see it go. I might go through withdrawal.

My experiments today included two new shakes, one for breakfast and one for dinner. Breakfast was a strawberry cheesecake shake - it had frozen strawberries, low fat cream cheese, one graham cracker, almond milk and Vi-Shape. It was pretty tasty! It would be good if I was craving dessert or sweets. And for dinner - I had a pumpkin pie shake - some canned pumpkin with nutmeg and cinnamon and vanilla, with the Vi-Shape and almond milk. Yummy! And very healthy.

Today the gym went good as well - I did my whole workout, plus added three reps to all my muscle activities. So I guess I could say it was my hardest work out ever!!!! Woot woot. I really like my current program and it's going awesome.

There's a big Visalus promo coming up tomorrow, so stay tuned. I've heard a rumor it involves free shipping for Thursday and Friday!!!

Have a great sleep y'all!!! And I hope my kick-butt day is contagious :)

Not a Perfect Angel

Well, what can I say. I WAS a perfect girl the first 20 days of November, and well, I must now sheepishly admit that I am a sinner. Going to Banff was awesome. We had a sweet hotel that had lots of wood and a cozy cabin feel. And a king size bed! It was called the Fox Hotel and Suites, if anyone is interested. The hotel had an amazing hot tub that opened up to the outdoors and it felt just like dipping into a hot spring amidst caves and rocks. We also rode the gondola to the top of Sulfur Mountain and that was exciting and beautiful... and we walked around downtown Banff and checked out the sites...and (confession)... we also drank some red wine, tasted some craft beers and ate some tasty meals at nice restaurants. So, I cheated. I'll be honest and admit it. I did not last all of November without drinks. The shame!!!!!!!! The horror!!!!!!! The guilt!!!!!!!!!!

I definitely feel disappointed in myself. I did not achieve my goal of perfection. I did not survive the November from hell. However, I did have a blast, and I now feel more determined than ever to behave for the rest of November. One little weekend of fun and debauchery will not sidetrack me from my goals.

Starting tomorrow - shakes shakes shakes. Back to a healthy routine. I miss my shakes and the way they make me feel.

I wouldn't trade this weekend for anything though :)

Sometimes we have to be bad to realize why it is we need to be good.

Also, my awesome roomies, Trae and Dani, put up the Christmas tree while I was away, and it looks awesome. I can feel the Christmas spirit already. YAY! Tis the season to be merry.

Now I just need to remember that Banff was a brief cheat, and that Xmas season is no excuse to drink Starbucks holidays drinks everyday and eat chocolates and cookies. At least, not until December 20th. Anything within a week of Christmas doesn't count, right!

Big News!!!!

I have some exciting news for y'all!!! Guess what??? While I know that I was a bad girl and didn't write a new Fat and Fortune entry yesterday -- I have a great excuse. I was too busy Googling information about Thailand! Yes, that's right - yesterday I got permission from my amazing boss to take three weeks off in January so that I can go to Thailand! Yay! I will be going with Lee, and I am sure we will have a blast. This gives me even more reason to behave (eat clean, exercise mean) and get a rockin' beach body! Woot woot.

Also - I am taking Monday off and heading to Banff for the weekend. Lee and I take off tomorrow morning. More yay! It's going to be so awesome to have a mountain weekend getaway. And hopefully I'll get lotsa exercise the natural way by hiking around. I just gotta remain strong and not give into tempation. Usually in Banff, I love to visit Grizzly House and feast on fondue. I also like to get wasted!!! Drink lotsa cool microbrews and pound back some wine. So this time, I gotta somehow summon the power of a saint. It won't be easy. One good thing, however, is that our hotel room has a kitchen suite, and so I will be able to bring my shake mix and shake supplies. And as for eating out, sushi is always a great option, as is any kind of meat & veggie meal.

Today was a Friday, so of course I had a session at Fitness First with John. He was really encouraging, as I was sort of tired, and less spunky than usual. I had a bad sleep last night and I am usually a little burnt out by the end of the week anyway, so it can be hard to giver. I did do my entire routine plus twenty minutes of running though - so I am proud!

Some of you hawk-eyes may also have noticed that my blog now has an ad on the right hand side. I am experimenting with "monetize" - it's a feature of Blogger that allows me to place an ad on my page, and I get paid if anyone clicks on it. Not sure if it will work, but since the whole point of this blog is to discuss my efforts to make a fortune, I figure I at least have to give it a try. So far, it's been on my page for one day, and there have been no clicks, so I've made no money. Not surprising, really. I will watch it for a week or two and see how it goes, and if it sucks, I'll just get rid of it.

I will do my best to post a blog entry from Banff - but no guarantees! I might be wayyyyyy uppppp on a mountaintop, or taking in the sights form the gondola. So just in case - I wish everyone an amazing weekend!!!

Hump Day = Happy Day

Some Wednesdays, all I can think is: "Thank god the week is half over!" Today, however, was a pretty awesome day. And this is despite the fact that I woke up very tired (all my own fault) from staying up and watching Dexter last night. Damn that show, it shall be the death of my sleep.

Everything that happened today was so uplifting. First off, when I walked through the doors of work, my awesome co-worker Julie informed me that she had just signed up for the Challenge! Yay!!! Another customer. Even better - Julie is a perfect customer, because we are so similar, I just know that she'll achieve amazing results. Julie and I have both been seeing a personal trainer, we've both attempted various diets and gimmicks, we both have our weaknesses to overcome (who isn't a wino nowadays, haha), and we are both determined to lose weight!!! We are always talking about fitness and nutrition, and I love having her at work, because we can relate to the same things. We often trade stories about how hard we worked/suffered at the gym, or what diet deals we've spotted for the day! I am super pumped for Julie to get her shipment and get started! I also think it's awesome she super-duper stockpiled the Neuro energy drinks. I frickin' love Neuro, and I think I got her hooked. Mwhahaha (evil laugh). The Neuro packs are so amazing at work when you need an energy boost, or when you need to concentrate. Gotta love mental clarity on tough days!

I also gotta give a shout out to Julie as she gets her PhD tomorrow - woot woot. Congrats my dear! You kick ass!!!!

You know how I gushed about Joe Roberts yesterday? Well, I wrote him to tell him how awesome he is, and I asked him for advice, and he wrote me back and sent me his book!!! How sweet is that!!!! I can't wait to read "7 secrets to profit from adversity." I know it will be very motivating!!!!

Also amazing - I am planning on holding my next challenge party very soon. Just confirming the date. As soon as I know, I'll write about it, and invite y'all to attend.

I also have to mention that today was my gym day - and I kicked ass! High five to me! My 20 minutes of running at the end was easier than normal, which is a huge bonus. Maybe, just maybe, I might actually have some potential when it comes to that energy-zapping heart-pounding activity. I want to learn how to get "runners high." That sounds fun.

Today, as you can probably tell, I was highly motivated and on the move. I even ran around putting up Visalus posters at work and in my apartment building. Not sure how effective they are (haven't even gotten an e-mail in response)... but I figure I will try anyway. Can't hurt.

Just wondering - to all my readers out there - do you have any advice as to how I should try and promote the Challenge? What's the best way to get the word out to the right people?

I will take "tips." As they say in Alberta, "Tipping...isn't just for cows."

Cultivating a "Possibility Mindset"

It was another kick-ass day at the Diverse Voices Family Violence Conference. The highlight for me was watching Joe Roberts' presentation entitled, "From Skid Row to CEO." Joe had an inspiring story - he went from being a homeless drug addict on the streets of Vancouver to a successful CEO - and better yet, he told his story with humor and pizazz. I learned a lot from him and ate up every word he offered about how to succeed in life and achieve your goals. I will try and recount his best nuggets of wisdom:

- To achieve our dreams, we need to have a possibility mindset, and not a probability mindset. With a possibility mindset, you can achieve anything. Anything is possible! With a probability mindset, you'll always end up with what you got.

- The secrets to success are simple, but not easy:

1. Choose what you want to do
2. Get busy doing it
3. Don't stop till you succeed

- High performance is abnormal. If you give something all you got, you will excel, as you will be putting in more energy than the average person. Think about it, most humans are lazy and give the minimal amount of effort required to do a given task. Humans have a survival instinct, and naturally want to conserve energy. While this instinct may have served us well in ancient times, we now lack threats, and the need to conserve energy is no longer relevant.

-Discontent is the catalyst for change!

- Many positive things are associated with change - excitement, possibilities, opportunity to learn new things, meet new people, see new places. Also, change creates energy and momentum, and has a ripple effect. Once it gets rolling, it can spread!

- Change is a massive opportunity

- Fear rips us off, leads us towards mediocrity and causes us to miss opportunities

- When embracing change, have a proper mindset (focused on possibility) and develop a clear vision - stake a claim!

- Commitment is the willingness to carry through with an action long after the mood in which it was created is gone.

- We should all have a bucket list. Studies have found that when you write stuff down, it's more likely to get done.

- It's not the big things that make you successful in life, but persistent effort, day after day. Make a list and get five small tasks done every day that help you work towards a bigger long-term goal.

- Believe in oneself -"Yes, I can!"

I just love all of this advice. I will keep it in mind with regard to my fat and fortune goals. I want to be fit, and I want to be rich. I need to take small steps every day that take me in this direction. I need to keep going to the gym, make positive food choices, put effort into distributing Visalus every day, keep learning about marketing and the Internet, and believe that things will fall into place. Change is often slow to start, but once it gets going - look out!!!!!

It's a new week, and I am feeling fresh!

I am now on Day 14 of my "November from Hell" challenge. Yes folks, this means I have not drank any alcohol for 14 days, and I've survived two weekends - pretty snazzy, eh!!! And to be honest, thus far, it hasn't been as hard as I expected. There have been a couple times where I've went, "Damn, I wish I could have wine right now," but that's natural... the moment passed, and I feel really proud for resisting. The most positive impact I've noticed from not drinking is that my performance at the gym has definitely improved. I am now at the gym between 1.5 and 2 hours, three times a week. My routine is super fast paced, and in my opinion, it is super challenging. Yet, I feel like I've been kicking butt this month. I mean - I've gotten two high fives from John in a row! Booya.

I honestly think that my typical routine of having casual drinks on a Thursday night, then going to the gym on Friday, had a negative impact on my performance. So the good news is - by not drinking this month - not only am I saving calories, but I am also working out longer and stronger!!! YAY!!!!!!!

I also have to mention a super delicious shake that I made today, as it is definitely one of my faves. It's sort of like a Starbucks iced frappacino, but healthy! I added the shake mix to milk, one package of instant coffee (the Starbucks to-go kind), some natural mint flavoring, one teaspoon of hot chocolate, a dash of cinnamon, and a hint of natural vanilla flavour. It was soooo amazingly delicious. It's like getting your coffee and breakfast in one drink. And with all the ingredients, it's probably the same price as a fancy Starbucks, but it has so much extra healthy stuff - calcium, fiber, protein!

Also - I have to say - today was a very inspiring day for me, as I went to the Diverse Voices family violence conference at West Ed (I am there tomorrow as well), and the speakers were AMAZING!!!! I actually went and saw one speaker twice, and was tempted to go for three (each session had a slightly different theme, so materials were never repeated). Her name is Johnnetta McSwain, and she spoke about "rising above the scars" of domestic violence, sexual abuse, neglect and poverty. She was such a dynamic speaker, soooo funny, so spunky, full of life, and she really made me proud to be a woman. She demonstrated how strong women are, and what they can achieve no matter what - as we all have resiliency. Best of all, even though I have no personal experience with domestic violence, and I cannot relate to being a victim, she gave me a sense of empowerment and a sense of being worth something (even more than what I already thought - she was that good!!!). She truly made me feel like a female goddess, and reinforced my belief that each one of us is so special, so smart, and has intrinsic value. As such, if someone wants to put me down, tell me I can't succeed, try to take away my independence - I just got to remember - I am a queen baby, and ain't nobody gonna steal my sunshine!!!!!!!

If you are interested, there's a three-part documentary about Johnnetta on Youtube, and I'll attach the link to part 1. But just so you know - she's even more amazing in real life. It's hard to capture her essence in words, as her personality and delivery are truly unique!

Livin' the Dream - Fort Mac Styles!

So I am up in Fort Mac - visiting my boyfriend, Lee, in camp, woot woot. It's been great seeing him, and very interesting to see what it's like up here.

Yesterday was my first day, and I have to admit, I was a little timid. Technically, I am not really supposed to be living in his room, and so I was kinda afraid to leave. I made him run lots of errands for me. Of course, I brought my blender and Vi-Shape shake mix with me, along with some flavour mix-ins and Vi-Trim (an appetite suppressant), as I am not going to leave my diet behind just because I am on "vacation." As such, I would get Lee to go grab me skim milk, ice and fresh fruit from the Caf for every meal. They have pretty awesome fruit here - including the usual suspects like apples, oranges and bananas, but also pineapple, watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe. Not too shabby!

Today I went and roamed around freely, I guess I have become accustomed to the place. I went to the gym for about an hour, and did some major cardio, as well as parts of my workout routine that I normally do with John. It's kinda weird not working out with John, but I think I did good. It was also weird to be in a gym with dudes... I am used to working one-on-one with a trainer. The gym here is great though - lots of machines and weights and equipment.

I did fail at dinner though... I went to the gym, then showered, and by the time I went for dinner at 8:45, everything was shut down. So I grabbed milk and fruit for a shake... guess I will be eating 100% shakes today. This is new for me. So far though, I feel nice and full, just a little tired. It's so quiet and warm in here... makes me SLEEPY!!!!

I was hoping that there would be some guys in camp who want to buy Visalus shakes, due to the fact that they are full of protein and other awesome nutrients, which guys LOVE. So I made up a few posters with some Visalus info and my contact information, and brought them up here with me. I got Lee to hang them on the communal bulletin board. Please baby-Jesus, send me some Fort Mac customers!!! I know they get free food up here, and they might prefer steroids to healthy shakes, but c'mon, someone has got to have an interest.

I also tried out a new service to try and promote my business. The idea of it is super cool, but I am not sure if it's effective. It's called TwitHawk, and it searches Twitter to find anything you want. When I signed up, I got 10 free credits, and I've used them all already. I searched for things like: "Sick of protein shakes," and "Need to lose weight." What TwitHawk does is find every single post on twitter with those exact words, and then it allows you to send responses to them. So when I found a hit that appealed to me, I would say something like, "Have you heard of the Body by Vi Challenge? Lose weight and gain lean muscle by drinking delicious shakes." I used my 10 credits up, and so far, not one single person has got back to me. As such, I am not sure if it would be worth it to actually pay for this service. Unless - 10 just isn't enough... hmmmm.

Well, I hope that everyone had a Remembrance Day to remember, and enjoyed all the happenings as of late - like 11:11:11 and the full moon. This universe is crazy!

Energy and Excitement!

Today was an awesome day. Whereas yesterday I felt super tired and lacked spunk, today I was on fire. It was day two of my new program at the gym, and it went AWESOME!!! I did two entire sets of exercises without wimping out on any of them. I didn't collapse during the plank. I did my jumping lunges like a champ and made sure my heels touched the floor!!! I didn't pause the treadmill during my 20 minute run. I was such a rock star today, that John gave me a high-five at the end of the day, which made me feel really good! Yay! And better yet, it's already 10:30, and I am not feeling hurtin'. Woot woot. My power is building!

So pretty soon I shall be going on an adventure. For the first time ever, I am going to visit my boyfriend in Fort Mac (he lives in Edmonton but works there). I am a little nervous about living in his camp, but totally excited to see him! It will be an adventure. I am going to pretend to be an engineer. I shall integrate in with the workers...use their gym, roam the halls, etc.

Also, this will be my first time bringing Visalus on the road! I am going to bring my blender and shake mix with me, and stick to my two shakes a day while I am there (plus a healthy lunch in the caf). I can't even imagine going without my shakes at this point. I am totally addicted!

I wonder if I can hold a secret Challenge party in camp, and invite all the oilsands workers, haha. "Hey boys, need more protein in your diet?" "Sick of camp food and need a nutrition boost?" I am totally going to print up some posters to bring with me.

Speaking of Challenge Parties, I want to hold one - soon!!! I am not sure if blogging is the best form of communication for an invite - but I will try anyway :)

Edmonton readers!!! Are you out there??? Anyone want to attend a shake party at my place in the next week or two? You really need to attend a Challenge Party to realize exactly how delicious and nutritious the shakes are! The party will be super-fun, you can try some shakes and Neuro and maybe even some cookies.

Leave a comment or e-mail me and let me know what works for you!!!

Wondering, pondering... so many questions!

Today is one of those days where I am a little overwhelmed and a little confused. I've been doing a lot of Internet research about how to market products online, and well, let me tell you - there is a SHITLOAD of information out there.

Today I was looking into email auto responders. Apparently, they are the cat's meow of Internet marketing. First, you set up a website with interesting content to attract people, then you get someone to enter their e-mail address for more info, and BINGO - now that you have their e-mail, you can use your auto responder system to send them stuff. New info on your products. A reminder to attend a party. A link to a website. And on and on. I am wondering though, is this type of thing useful for a Visalus business, or is this more for a company that is selling information? I've noticed that companies that peddle advice on "how to market" seem to be the biggest promoters of auto responders, and once you give them your e-mail address they just send you tip after tip. I've got instructions on how to make a facebook page (been there done that), how to use Twitter effectively, how to make a marketing funnel, how to make money in my sleep, blah blah blah. It all starts the look the same after awhile.

The thing I am afraid of, is that by using an auto responder, people will just think I am annoying!!! I know most of the crap I get in my e-mail is pretty lame. Only this one girl, Anne Sieg, seems to send me anything that piques my interest. So maybe it can be good, as long as the content is high quality.

Hmmm... anyone have experience with auto responders? Should I try one for a month, just as an experiment?

I think I should be cautious of all this Internet mumbo jumbo. In fact, I have a hilarious cautionary tale about the Internet, that occurred TONIGHT. It involves my poor co-worker Julie, and my bad advice, haha.

I know that Julie really wants one of those lovely and super-warm winter parkas - the Canada Goose brand. They are SUPER expensive though! Well, today I was on facebook, and I saw an ad spring up on the right hand side for those Canada Goose jackets for 30% off. I clicked the link and looked at the website. There was a good selection of jackets, and to me, the thing looked legit. So I texted Julie and asked for her home email address and sent her the link. She was blown away by the deal as well, and promptly bought a jacket. Like - in five minutes, ha. Then... her cautious deal-doubter boyfriend takes a look at the website and tells her that he thinks it looks fake! So she called Visa, and sure enough - it's a fraud!!! They cancelled the payment for her, and no damage was done - but WOW. I sent my buddy to a fraudulent website. Nice friend I am, eh.

This just goes to show - beware of facebook deals and online scams. Even a master deal-hunter like myself can be tricked!!!

The First Day of My New Program

Well, today was the first day of my new personal training program with John at Fitness First. He warned me it would be tough and I would hate him by the end of November, and the new program did not disappoint. It was super tough! I was sweaty and dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out. I had to work out non-stop the whole time, and he barely even gave me a second to have a sip of water. But - that's what I pay a trainer for - to whip me into shape and to force me to do things I would never do on my own. John is tough, but fair, ha.

My program starts with a sprint on the treadmill to get my heart-rate up, after that I do two sets of exercises, but each set is a full body work out. For example, one set involves doing a ton of arm moves (attempting chin ups, doing shoulder presses, chest presses, tricep curls etc.), then leg moves (includes jumping lunges and flying squats, fun fun), then abdominal exercises(these are my faves, but super hard - one move even involves me hanging upside down from a bar, like a possum or some crazy creature, and doing sit ups from an upside down position... then i have a zillion other ab moves, and I follow it all up with a plank that seems to last forever!), and then after all that - I can't forget the back! The signature back move is the "dead lift." Gotta love that name. Rather than pumping iron, I felt like lifting myself off the ground after all those crunches was equivalent to a dead lift :)

Each round takes half an hour, for a total of a one hour full body work out. After one hour of this, I do 20 minutes on the treadmill. I am learning to run!!! I've never been able to run, as I get sharp pains in my sides, I have trouble breathing and feel like I am going to die... but John has taught me I can run, I just don't really like it. Running takes practice and I had to slowly build myself from five minutes to six minutes... to twenty minutes! So yah, today was really hard. But I am proud - I survived! AND, I think I might even try to get someone to take photos or videos of me in the gym so you can all see what I go through.

I am hoping that by the end of this month, I'll be able to see abs. That would be quite the pay off!!!!

As for the business side of things - no new customers today. Can't win them all, haha. But that's OK, I am still basking in the afterglow from my successful weekend.

Remember how I was complaining that my blog didn't show up in Google... well, ever since I went ".com," if one Googles "Fat and Fortune," my blog shows up in the NUMBER ONE spot! YAY! I think this is very exciting. In fact, I am thinking about creating other blogs. My other passion (besides fat and fortune) is politics... I wonder if I would have enough time in the day to write two blogs. That would be tough. Maybe I'll wait till I am making a fortune, then I can spend my free time whining about politicians. It seems they hardly ever please me.

Speaking of making a fortune, a member of my upline is a real estate agent, and I checked out her website outta curiosity... and I found a super amazing apartment in my dream area (Whyte Ave!) - how amazing is this? http://www.findyouahome.ca/view_listing.php?listing=sys&id=E3279608

C'mon shakes. Bring Mama some money :)

All kidding aside, I only have one lesson to report today, business-wise. I entered my e-mail address into all of these websites purporting to offer multi-level marketing (MLM) tips, hoping to get some free advice, and today I did get something useful in an email. I was sent a list of free advertising/classified ad sites. Now, I know everyone has heard of Kijiji and Craigslist, but apparently there are more! At least eight more! For example, there's one called "inetgiant" - it's a free classified service in the US. I just posted a classified there, so I will see how it works! This referral is very helpful, since Visalus is a North American product, and technically, anyone from this great continent can order a shake from me.

Finally, I'll end this blog post with some disturbing news. I think that my obsession with health and wellness and Visalus and the gym has caused others to have nightmares about me! Ha. Well, not quite nightmares, but freaky dreams. My roomie and super-awesome friend Trae had a dream last night that my head was photoshopped onto a male bodybuilder's body, and I was out in the streets, covered in that dark brown tanning stuff that bodybuilders use, trying to sell chocolate protein bars!!! Hahaaaaa. Let's all hope this isn't a snapshot into my future!!!

Sunday Sunday Sunday + One Bonus Hour

Today was daylight savings day - the good one - where we get to "fall back" an hour. I used this extra hour the best way possible, haha, by staying in bed and watching Dexter! I jumped onto the Dexter bandwagon late in the game, and so I am now just beginning season four. The show is so addictive. Between the addictiveness of trying to market Visalus and the addictiveness of Dexter, I had no problem staying in bed half then day. But hell, it's Sunday, and it's lovely to stay in bed!

Besides Dexter, I did a lot of business stuff from bed. I wrote e-mails to potential customers, posted my blog onto Myspace, AND - best of all - communicated with a new customer! Yah! That's right - I got another customer today!!! Three days in a row baby, I am on fire. A lovely girl from work named Jamie has decided to start the Challenge. I am so excited to have so many co-workers support me and join me on this Visalus journey. I think it will be super cool if we all show results at the same time!

As for me, I feel like I am seeing results already, especially now that I am being a good girl and not drinking. Since I started the Body by Vi Challenge a little over a month ago, I am down a little over two pounds. That doesn't tell the whole story though, as I've been seeing a trainer, and he says I've gained muscle. We just did a whole set of measurements at the beginning of November, and so I will make sure to report what happens at the end of November. Also, I did take some "before" pics, and so I will post those, along with the "after" pics, once the 90 day challenge is complete! If that's not motivation to succeed, I don't know what is.

I am really proud of myself though, as I was a saint this weekend. No booze of course, and honestly, it wasn't even a problem. I also didn't have any bread, potato, rice, etc. No treats or sweets or snacks. Just two shakes a day, in addition to a healthy meal. I think it's been pretty easy not cheating because I've spent a lot of time alone, working on business stuff or doing things like laundry, or walking down Whyte. I didn't hang out with people much. I think that social situations lead me into temptation, and so for at least this month, I need to avoid people as much as possible, ha.

What a diet, eh. "Drink shakes, live like a hermit, and you too, can be skinny!"

On the business side of things, one of the biggest challenges I've faced is trying to figure out how I can market the Body by Vi Challenge to strangers. How can I reach out to fitness junkies, nutritionists, people who want to lose weight? Ideally, I want to find those people who are already consuming protein shakes or some other kind of shake, and then present them with this product, which I know is superior (trust me, I have tried many brands of protein shakes in the last year - at least five! This is in addition to Slim Fast and all that other jazz). I have noticed that facebook is always putting advertisements related to marketing on the right hand side of my page. I often click on them, and they promise you the world - "Take your MLM Company to the next level," "Grow your business." "Generate unlimited leads." Whenever I click on one of these things, it takes me to a website that basically tells me that some person has developed a system that brings hundreds of leads to you, and makes you money without people even buying from you... The only problem is, I would of course have to pay money to buy this system. And because I am not sure who these people are, I am reluctant to buy one of these things, as I am scared it's a gimmick.

There is one lady names Anne Sieg... she sent a free e-book to me, and it was actually quite interesting. She wrote about renegade network marketing, and provided good tips. Like, for example, you attract people to your business when you give them something. If you can provide tips or expertise, people are attracted to that, they see you as an expert, and they trust you. It seems to make sense! I am sort of tempted to buy her renegade network marketing system, but I want to hold out and keep researching for awhile. There are so many of these people claiming to have the magic system, that I don't want to buy one just yet. Ideally, I am hoping to find some advice for free.

Wow. It's 11:30... so much for today seeming like it would last forever. It flew!!! I hope you all enjoyed yr extra hour, I know I did. Until tomorrow, keep fit and have fun!

Success = Customer #2

It's another glorious day! Cuz guess what? I now have two customers!!! Yay! A girl from work signed up, and even better, she had attended my Challenge Party! That means the party was a success! The Visalus formula works. Julie is a real sweetie, and she has curly hair too, so of course I think she's awesome. I hope she loves the products! I sent her the shake recipe book and a healthy cook book full of high protein recipes, so that's a good start!

I have more exciting news. In trying to achieve my goal of promoting Visalus and encouraging people to join the Challenge, I've gained a lot of new Internet skillz. I learned how to make a facebook page, I learned to use Twitter better, and now - I learned a little bit about domains! Yes, that's right. I went ".com" baby! This blog is now fatandfortune.com. I figured that ".com" sounded a little bit more professional.

Now I am just wondering why it is that when I Google "fat and fortune" or even "fatandfortune" my blog does not show up. Is it because it's not popular enough? Hmmm... so many things to learn.

You know, I've always considered myself pretty adept at the Internet. I work on a computer all day. I joined myspace and facebook as soon as I learned about them. I bank online, shop online, even watch all of my TV online. I basically LIVE online. Yet, now that I am trying to use the internet for a new purpose - marketing - I am realizing that this is a whole new world. Let me give you a few examples.

My first instinct in marketing Visalus was to turn to facebook. Facebook ads are eveywhere, and I've heard that you can make a lot of connections with potential customers using facebook. As such, I created a facebook page for Visalus, and hoped for the best. Well, first-off, hardly any of my friends "liked" my page. So, I figured I'd advertise it. I set a lifetime budget of $50 for facebook ads, and set some criteria - I wanted my page to be viewed by people in Canada or the US, over eighteen, at least a high school education, etc. I even tried to narrow it to people interested in health and fitness and weight loss etc. Well... let me tell you, I am not sure how facebook gets people to "like" a page, but lots of the people who liked my page, seemed to not care one bit about it. I mean - you look at these people, and they like 30 pages a day. Some of them look 12 years old, despite my age restrictions, many of them appear to not speak English and have Arabic or some other writing style on their page... and I am left wondering - how is it that this person ever liked my page??? Does facebook pay people to like pages?

Worse yet, not one single person who liked my page (except a girl from my upline), has ever commented on a single post, or checked out my Visalus website. I would highly encourage people to not advertise through facebook pages. Or - if you have had success with facebook pages - please let me know what I am doing wrong!!!

Another funny thing about my page was that I wanted to learn how to put little apps on the left hand side. I noticed that some people had facebook pages that had a TON of sweet functions - they had things that said: "Welcome," "Body by Vi YouTube," "contact me now," "free downloads," etc. etc. I had NO CLUE how to get these things, and when you look at the "help" function for pages, it doesn't tell you. Finally, I realized I could download apps that would install these functions on my page. The thing is though, I installed two apps, and then the app company informed me that I would have to pay for more. This was a real bummer, as I hadn't really given great thought to the two I picked - they were probably just the first two in the list. And the sad this is, I remember that it took me about four hours to even figure out how it was that I could get these things. Oh my.

If you want to view my facebook page, and LIKE me (I think I deserve it after all that work, don't you???), please visit: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Visalus-Sciences-Health-Products-Jodies-Page/206470159421175?sk=wall

What else is new today? Well, I walked to Shoppers Drug Mart to meet up with a girl who had e-mailed me, expressing interest in Vislaus, but wanted to try the product first. Luckily, I have a few taster kits, and so I gave her a package with the shake mix, one flavour mix in, and a Neuro. For her, taste is very important (as it should be!) and so she wanted to ensure that she liked it before committing. I can't wait to hear back from her. I think she'll love it. The funny thing is, she told me to meet her by the Shoppers on Whyte and 109. So I was standing there thinking - "this is a high traffic area, where the heck is this woman going to park?" Then, I see the white Pathfinder sort of veer to the side, and the lady inside was looking at me like "now what?" I told her to pull into the alley behind Shoppers, and jogged to catch up with her. It was absolutely hilarious, meeting a potential customer in an alley, dropping off some shake mix!!! She hadn't realized that Shoppers moved from the location by the Safeway, and so she thought there would be a parking lot, haha.

I also made a new shake today, one that was recommended by my upline Andy. He told me that if I mixed the shake mix with ice, milk and a lemon Neuro that it would taste exactly like lemon meringue pie. So - I tried it - and it was damn good! Fresh tasting, yet almost dessert-like in texture (funny, since it barely has any calories). I would definitely try it again, especially since I love how Neuro makes me feel!

And besides all that jazz, I texted and talked to my lovely boyfriend all night. He just signed up for Skype and so we tried that out for two minutes, and then we basically texted for hours. He's far away in Fort Mac, working hard to make the big bucks, and so we tend to text and chat a lot while he is at work. Sometimes I feel kinda guilty, because I subject him to so much Body by Vi talk. But I did think it was really cute tonight when he told me I was smart and sexy for figuring out how to make my website ".com" Awwww!!!!!!

And now, the only thing I have left to do tonight is enter my last couple calories into My Fitness Pal. If you've never checked this website out, you totally should, It's free, and it's an awesome way to watch your calories. It makes me wayyy more aware of what I am eating. You can also track fat, protein, fiber, sugar, etc. The sugar column is a good one for me to watch, as I can be really bad in that department. Today though, I have been SO GOOD! I've had two shakes and homemade chicken vegetable soup. And a handful of nuts. I think I would go nuts without nuts; I am an addict.

And on that note, me being a nut addict that is, I wish you all great health and nutty dreams!

What a Wonderful Day!

Today was one of those days that just worked out perfectly from beginning to end. For example, I got an extra half an hour sleep last night because for once in my life I decided NOT to watch an hour long episode of Dexter before bed (I am obsessed!). I had a delicious shake for breakfast - "peanut butter" (organic peanut and cashew butter without sugar) and "jelly" (AKA frozen strawberries). I think the peanut better keeps me feeling fuller for longer, as I didn't get hungry till 11:00 - pretty good!

I was really proud of myself at work today. A super amazing co-worker brought in treats for goodie day - and they were specialty baked goods from the Dutchess. Everything looked amazing! Perfect scones and croissants and danishes. Like little pieces of art. But I was strong and COMPLETELY resisted. Not even a nibble. I waited until lunch, when I had delicious homemade chicken vegetable soup. I must admit, I am a damn good cook :)

Oh, and at lunch I was a bad girl. I went with my work hommie, Julie, to Kunitz shoes, and we both bought new winter boots! This is on top of the new runners I bought yesterday. Both things are practical though, right! Hahaaaa. I think that because I am on a diet this month, and I can't drink, I keep telling myself that I have extra money I am not spending at restaurants or bars, and so I might as well invest it in myself. Bribery for being a good girl!

After work, I went to see my personal trainer John and our session today went SO GOOD! I was spunky, had tons of energy... it was funny, because he quipped that my new runners were giving me superpowers. Oddly, enough, I was more excited for the gym than usual, and it was because I was SO EXCITED to try them out. They did work awesome. Super comfy. Great grip. Nice support. When it got to the end of my session, I had to run 20 min on the treadmill, and for the first time EVER, I did not have to take a 30 second pause. YAH! My running is improving.

And, if that wasn't great enough - here comes the news you've all been waiting for... I got my first customer today!!!! YAY!!!! She found me on Kijiji and ordered a Shape Kit. So amazing. I know that she will be super pleased with her decision!

So tonight, it's Friday, I am not drinking, I have been a good girl and I've been showered with great news all day - I figure I deserve a little Dexter tonight, don't you?

Sweet dreams all!!!

Visalus Visalus Visalus!!!!!!!!

Well folks, today was a huge day for me. Not only did I have my first-ever Challenge party, but I also took part in my first team conference call. I learned so much today, and I am sooo excited!

First, with regard to the Challenge party at work, it went pretty good, although the turn out wasn't as great as I hoped it would be. There were a few people who said they could come and then they didn't make it. In all, I had two members of my upline there to assist me (they were so amazingly helpful and awesome) and four co-workers. Prior to the party starting, my two upline team members and I transformed the boardroom into the Ultimate Visalus Challenge Party Room! All four kits were set up in their entirety (the team has everything figured out!), and we set up the stuff to make shakes (normal and strawberry), sample the Neuro (we tried lemon), and eat a few cookie samples. The products are delicious, and I think everyone enjoyed them. After all that, we watched a DVD on the Body by Vi Challenge, my upline and I spoke about our personal experiences, my co-workers asked questions, and then everyone went back to work. The whole thing was done in an hour!

I am hoping that a few of the girls will want to join the Challenge, or will know friends who want to join. One girl at work that I am really tight with, we both go to personal trainers and have an obsession with fitness and diet - I think she's gonna switch over from her current Visalus distributor to me. I really hope so, I want a customer so bad. I never realized how hard it would be to sell a product that's so awesome and reasonably priced. Any ideas as to how I can do better? Any thoughts as to where I am going wrong?

I am hoping that I am doing all the right things, and that it just takes awhile to get going.

On my walk home from work I stopped at the Running Room and bought myself new runners for the gym! Yah! My left foot has been hurting lately in the arch region, and I figure that new runners may help. It especially hurts when I run on the treadmill, and so I am hoping these babies give me the support I need. The guy that helped me find the runners was so helpful - better than a doctor. As soon as I told him the pain was the worst in the morning, he knew what my problem was - Plantar fasciitis. Ughhh. Why me? Makes me feel old balls. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if the new runners help or not.

Then, when I got home, I was starving!!! I had a shake for breakfast and chicken vegetable soup for lunch, and by the time I got home it was 7. The thing I love about the shakes is that when you are starving, you know that you will have your meal almost instantly! Today I made a new shake that I learned about from one of my upline team members - it is Reese Pieces inspired! The recipe calls for shake mix plus organic peanut/cashew butter and a chocolate mix in. So frickin' delicious and satisfying!!! And the best part - it is chock full of nutrients and I am still full 3.5 hours later!

I wasn't lying when I said today was a Visalus day. Almost immediately after my shake, I went to my room and dialled into a conference call with 24 of my Visalus team members. The conference call had one of THE head honchos from our team on the line. She lives in Montreal and makes ridiculous money selling this stuff (a few people on the call - those at the very top- mentioned making over $30, 000 a month!!!), and she spoke to us for 1.5 hours, telling us about how we can improve our business. It was very informative and inspiring. My main takeaways include:

-Challenge parties are very important. It's a simple model. Invite people. Let them know about the products in advance. Follow up with them and get them to the party. Let them taste the shakes and watch the DVD at the party. They should be sold on the product!

-At the party, let people know they can get their product for free if they can get three people on a kit of equal or greater value. Also, they can make money by selling the product. After the party, split up people into two groups - those who only want to buy the shakes, and those who want to sell them. Show the Get Started Training (GST) to those who want to make $$$.

-Many people worry that they will run out of friends and family to sell to. Or, that they live in a small town and most people who want to buy have already bought in. There is a solution to this. Network marketing is about NETWORKING. If I know someone in another city, I should let them know about the challenge. I should promote the challenge when I travel. I should use contacts and friends of friends to get the word out.
-Use your upline! The people above me in the company are there for a reason. They are very good at what they do. They have achieved success. I need to make sure that I ask them questions, invite them to parties, and involve them in three way calls. I think this point is super important, as I have been extremely impressed with my upline. They are prompt in responding to questions, super helpful, enthusiastic, and all-around awesome. It's important that I use them as a resource, especially since I have no credibility at this point. I am not a fitness or a marketing expert. As such, potential customers may feel better talking to someone who is!

So those were the main points I learned, although I am sure there were a lot more things covered that I already forgot. It was very interesting and very inspiring to hear success stories and share experiences with everyone.

Now I just got to put into action all of the lessons I've learned today. That will be my challenge.

Please let me know if you are interested in attending a party, or if you want additional information about the Challenge. Even if you live far away from me, you can still become a distributor. Ir's a networked world we live in!

And now, I bid you adieu- I am off to have Visalus dreams :)
